Kelvyn Coffey has specialised exclusively in the sale of motels, motor inns and tourist hotels since 1984, with the forming of a company then known as South Island Motel Brokers Ltd. This company enjoyed success in the travellers accommodation industry market throughout the 1980's, with expansion of its activities into hotel brokerage (pubs and taverns) and later general business brokerage. Having sold his interests in that company, (which operates today under a different name) Kelvyn formed this company in 1995. The reason being that he wished to refocus on specialising full time in the tourism property industry. In 1996 Kelvyn was appointed the South Island consultant to the Motel Association of New Zealand. Kelvyn provides consultancy to MANZ members as part of the benefit of their membership. Advice is often sought on areas relating to leases, rentals, market trends etc. He is a strong advocate for the Motel Association and believes firmly in the value and service it provides to its members. As such he assists where possible in MANZ Roadshows, where the Association endeavours to provide information and education to its members on visits to their respective regions. Kelvyn has seen this industry through its highs and lows and is happy to share this experience with anyone contemplating entering the business. Kelvyn lives in Christchurch and is married with four children. When time permits, hobbies include cycling, snowboarding, flying small aircraft, photography and hi-fi.

Alan Ironside
Alan Ironside joined Coffeys following many successful years in the accommodation industry, both as a leasehold motel owner and later as developer of his own Five Star motel complex. Alan and his wife Sue operated their new motel until selling a lease of the business after three very successful years. The property continues to hold its Five Star rating, which is testimony to the depth of knowledge and skill Alan has of the industry. In more recent times Alan returned to live in Christchurch and came to Coffeys to advance his already successful record in tourism property brokerage. Whether you are looking to enter the industry, or whether you are wanting to prepare your accommodation business for future sale, Alan welcomes the opportunity to provide guidance and assistance to buyers and vendors alike. He enjoys sharing his knowledge of the industry. As a past member of the service club Round Table (NZ) and a current member of the NZ 41 Club, Alan continues to be involved in community service activities. He enjoys travel, salmon fishing (when time allows!), genealogy (beginner!) and sport in general.

Inky comes to Coffeys after spending the last 20 years in the hospitality industry. The first five years were managing a group of four hotels and the last 15 successfully running his own hotel, where he was the longest standing publican in a hotel that was first opened in 1867. Many changes in regulations in this industry has required lateral thinking and creative actions to stay competitive. It is this philosophy that Inky brings to Coffeys along with outstanding service to his clients, which has been the cornerstone of his success in the industry. Inky and his wife Paulette have raised two sons and two daughters and have six grandchildren. His leisure activities include rugby, cricket and golf, as well as family and friends.



Anne Marshall

Anne Marshall is Coffeys Nelson based representative. After 18 very successful years in Residential Real Estate in the Nelson market, Anne and her husband Gavin entered the motel industry. Anne and Gavin took two brand new motels successfully from a standing start to the very top of the Nelson motel market. Having recently sold the Five Star Palazzo Motor Lodge, Anne decided to share her expertise in the industry by becoming a Motel Broker with Coffeys. Coffeys are privileged to have Anne on board, because despite many overtures from local agents she wished to work with a team of experienced specialists. Anne and Gavin are happy to share their knowledge and industry experience to help encourage new moteliers in this exciting industry. This assistance is not just available during purchasing period, Anne has a genuine desire to see people succeed in the industry and is keen to help them and as often as she can. Anne has a son and daughter plus two grandchildren. She is widely travelled and relishes the opportunity to regale her many tales of adventure.

Ian comes to Coffeys from a background of 18 years as a top performing rural real estate agent for a major franchise in the Nelson region. A recent move to the Bay of Plenty and a couple of “gap” years have prompted Ian to channel his natural enthusiasm and creative marketing flair toward Accommodation and Resort brokerage. The timing was very opportune with Coffeys looking to expand their very successful South Island business into the North. Ian is totally client orientated and his mission is always to assist clients achieve their goals, sometimes with creative solutions and spectacular results. Ian has travelled extensively in New Zealand and to a lesser extent overseas. He does not need convincing we live in Paradise. This love of our country helps tremendously when dealing with clients particularly when they are from overseas. Ian is married to Pat and they have three grownup children and two grandchildren. Having always had a love of the outdoors Ian has completed a number of the Great Walks in New Zealand and his interests include fishing, particularly trout fishing, tramping, wine, travel and family.

Chris Wong represents Coffeys as a Tourism Property Broker operating out of Auckland, strengthening the company’s presence in the North Island. He has an extensive background in the tourism and hospitality industry spanning some 30 years, twenty of which were at executive management level. He has also been involved in selling tourism businesses in the New Zealand and South Pacific markets for the last three years. His extensive knowledge and tourism industry work experience has taken him through New Zealand, Australia, most of the Asia/Pacific region, the Americas and Europe. Chris is passionate about the tourism industry and has an excellent grasp of its operational framework. He can relate to the issues affecting owners and operators and has a full appreciation of what buyers and investors are looking for. He looks forward to further strengthening Coffeys’ presence in the North Island and delivering the professional service for which the company is well renowned. Chris and his wife Helen have two grown up daughters living in Auckland and enjoy the luxury of being a closely knit family. Cooking, fishing and travelling rank highly on his list of interests.

We are fortunate to have had Lisa on board for over five years now. This brings over 10 years experience in the administration side of business brokerage. Lisa quietly and efficiently runs the office, she has her finger on the pulse. She is happy to assist clients with enquiries and she is usually fully up to date with the progress of transactions. Lisa and her partner have a manufacturing & engineering business predominantly within the wheelchair services industry, and this keeps Lisa busy in her spare time looking after the administration of that as well.
